SUMMARY:The Future of the Antique: Interpreting the Sculptural Canon
DESCRIPTION:Organised by: Dr Adriano Aymonino (The mini´«Ă˝) and Dr Kathleen Christian (Census of Antique Works of Art and Architecture Known in the Renaissance\, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin). \nSupported by: Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin; Center for Palladian Studies in America; Trinity Fine Arts; Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Londra. \nProgramme: See the Future Antique Programme. \nThis conference marks the publication of the new\, expanded edition of Francis Haskell and Nicholas Penny’s seminal Taste and the Antique\, edited by Adriano Aymonino and Eloisa Dodero (3 vols\, Harvey Miller/Brepols\, 2024). \nThe original edition was a landmark study that established a canonical list of ninety-five ancient sculptures that were widely admired\, collected\, and copied between c. 1500 and 1900. It traced how these works—from the Apollo Belvedere to the Laocoön—shaped artistic taste\, collecting practices\, and artistic discourse by defining a classical aesthetic and pedagogy. As one of the most influential texts in the history of art history\, Taste and the Antique has profoundly shaped scholarship and curatorial practice on the reception of ancient sculpture. \nThe revised three-volume edition of 2024 substantially updates the original text with recent research. It broadens the discussion of the reception of the classical canon\, incorporates decades of intervening scholarship\, and brings the conversation into the realm of contemporary art\, opening new perspectives on the afterlives of Greek and Roman sculpture. \nTaking the new edition as a point of departure\, the conference assesses the state of the field\, explores emerging methodologies\, and considers future directions. \n\nSessions will address how classical statues shaped visual culture beyond replication\, including: \nSHAPING AND TRANSMITTING THE CANON\nExamining the establishment\, radical alteration\, and dissolution of the sculptural canon in the early modern era. \nTHE CANON AND THE BODY IN THE AGE OF EMPIRE\nExploring the role of classical statuary in the conception of “proportionate” and “disproportionate” bodies\, in the representation of non-European populations\, and in colonial educational and social policies. \nRESTORATION AND DISPLAY\nConsidering reconfigurations of the antique and notions of authenticity; situating the antique within modern museum contexts. \nCHANGING AND RETHINKING CANONS\nRethinking the antique within modern and postmodern theoretical frameworks and practices. \n\nA core aim of this event is to foster dialogue across generations\, traditions\, and methodologies of scholarship.

DESCRIPTION:Are you looking for your next role in school sport and PE? Find out more about our MA Education (Leading Sport in Schools)\, hear from the course leads from the Faculty of Education\, as well as Neil Rollings from Independent Coach Education\, and ask them any questions you have about the course. \nDirector of Sport and middle leader positions in PE and Sport have changed significantly in their structure\, operation and success criteria over the last 10 years. The traditional entry route\, via PE teaching\, does not provide an adequate preparation for the demands of these role. There is currently no specific qualification that either prepares candidates for these roles\, provides a suitability indicator for employers or improves the performance of incumbents. This programme addresses this. \nFor those working in international schools\, an MA qualification is often required for appointment to SMT roles and in some countries higher qualifications such as Master’s degrees are required for their general teaching body. \nPlease note: To study on any of our courses you must be employed by a school.

DESCRIPTION:You are welcome to The mini´«Ă˝\, Law School third Annual International Conference on Human Rights\, Sustainability and Climate Change (ICHRSCC) taking place on Friday 25 September 2026. \nAs an interdisciplinary conference\, researchers\, experts\, scholars\, postgraduate students\, academics\, non-academics\, public commentators\, policymakers\, and activists are invited to submit abstracts for presentation that seek to deliver key\, cutting-edge research findings\, result-oriented solutions\, and briefings/experiences in practice and fieldwork. Presenters would be required to send the full paper for publication\, and the selected papers will be published in the Denning Law Journal (peer-reviewed). \nThe International Conference on Human Rights\, Sustainability\, and Climate Change (ICHRSCC) is seeking submissions related to the following themes: \n\nInternational Human Rights Law\nClimate Change and Human Rights\nEcocriticism and Environmental Justice\nUniversal Climate Justice\nRenewable Energy\nEnergy Transitions\nEnvironmental\, Social\, and Corporate Governance (ESG)\nSustainable Development\nThe Rule of Law and Sustainable Development\nClimate Change\, Sustainability and Fashion\nHuman Rights Due Diligence (HRDD)\nFast Fashion\, Human Rights\, and Climate Crises\nClimate Activism\, Ecological Integrity and Social Justice\nGarment Workers and Human Rights\n\nPlease note that participation is in-person for all presenters. \nPresenters would need to submit a maximum of 250-word abstract that is connected but not limited to the above themes to lawconference@buckingham.ac.uk\nWe accept abstracts from all disciplines. \nThe conference participants will be presented with: \n\nCertificate of participation.\nConference folder/brochure of programme.\nOnline digital access to photographs and other resources to stay connected after the conference.\nAccepted conference papers will be published in a reputable journal – The Denning Law Journal (peer-reviewed).\nA letter of acceptance to support visa application and processing can be provided for delegates coming from outside the United Kingdom.\nPresenters would need to pay ÂŁ100.00 GPB conference registration fee.\nBreakfast and Lunch will be served on the day of the conference to participants\, panellists\, and attendees.\nPostgraduate research students are exempted from conference fee payment.\n\nNote: If your abstract is accepted for presentation and you require a waiver of the conference fee because of financial hardship\, please send an email to the organisers detailing the grounds for the waiver. \nAll Participants are responsible for taking care of their traveling\, accommodation\, and feeding. We are happy to provide non-financial assistance for those needing accommodation and traveling by pointing them in the right direction. \nProposed timeline of events\n\nInterested participants must submit abstracts before the end of working hours on 30 April 2026. Decisions are made within two weeks of abstract submission. Note: The conference fee is due to be paid upon notification of abstract acceptance – a formal letter of acceptance will be issued as soon as payment is received.\nOwners of selected abstracts must confirm their physical attendance and presentation at the conference by 1 July 2026.\nPowerPoint slides of the proposed presentation must be submitted by 1 August 2026.\nParticipants who desire to submit a full paper for publication must complete the paper for publication and submit it by 30th August 2026.
